Anticipation

The word "Advent" comes from the Latin adventus, meaning "arrival." Advent marks the coming, or arrival, of the presence of God himself—Jesus—Emmanuel, "God with us." For centuries, Christians from various church traditions around the world have prepared for this arrival by observing Advent during the four weeks leading up to Christmas. In this season of waiting, we slow down to celebrate, anticipate, and participate in preparing for the King's arrival.

Join us as all River & Way House Churches gather collectively every Sunday evening from December 1st to December 22nd. We will be teaching and hosting conversations around the theme of “Anticipation,” guiding us through the hidden stories of Anna, Simeon, Zechariah, Elizabeth, Joseph, and Mary—figures who waited with hope and trust in God’s promises. This time of worship, prayer, and reflection is designed to help us prepare our hearts, deepen our discipleship, and live in expectation of God’s presence.

The Season of Advent

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Our Advent gatherings will be on the shorter side, welcoming participation from all ages. Together, we will sing, light the Advent wreath, reflect on the scriptures, pray, and partake in the Bread & Cup. While a full meal will not be provided each Sunday night, light snacks, hors d'oeuvres, and coffee will be available afterward as we linger in fellowship.
