Annual Vision & Prayer Night

Near the beginning of each year, we set aside a special time to reflect on where God has led us, seek His guidance for the year ahead, and submit our plans to Him in prayer. Annual Vision & Prayer (AVP) is a time for our House Church communities to come together to seek and celebrate God.

This year, AVP will take place during our regularly scheduled All Gathering on Sunday, March 2, at 4:30 PM. We will spend time in prayer and worship, share our vision for 2025, bless and commission the Wilcox Family as Overseers, and provide a brief financial overview of 2024/25.

Please make it a priority to be there that evening—we look forward to seeking God together!

Midweek Discipleship | The Apostles Creed

Midweek Discipleship | The Apostles Creed

This Spring, we’re bringing back Midweek Discipleship and spending five weeks diving into The Apostles' Creed together. One of the earliest and most enduring statements of the Christian faith, the Creed has anchored believers for generations. It serves as a concise summary of the Gospel and a unifying declaration of faith, connecting us to the Church throughout history and across traditions.

But this isn’t just about studying doctrine—it’s about rooting ourselves in the gospel story. As we walk through the Creed, we’ll explore how these foundational truths shape our understanding of Jesus, the Church, and our daily lives. This is an opportunity to wrestle with big questions, deepen our faith, and grow together in community.

This class is open to everyone—students and adults alike. If childcare would be helpful for you, let us know in the registration! We’re seeing if there’s enough need to make it available, and if we reach a good number, we’ll do our best to arrange it.

The class is at Westside Church, exact room TBA
Thursday Nights from 6:15-7:30 PM
March 6th - April 3rd

The Apostel Creed:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord;

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended to the dead.

On the third day, He rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

The holy catholic Church,

The communion of saints,

The forgiveness of sins,

The resurrection of the body,

And the life everlasting.

Amen.

Baptism Sunday

The Sunday after Easter, April 27, we will hold a special Baptism Gathering and celebration. Baptism is a sacrament that symbolizes a deeper spiritual reality—our old, isolated self is buried with Christ, and we are raised to new life in Him and His body, the Church.

If you’re ready to take this step of faith, we invite you to sign up to express your desire for baptism and receive information about our next Baptism Class. More details can be found HERE

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” - Peter in Acts 2v28

We’re doing something special for the last Sunday gathering of the year! On New Year's Eve, December 31, we are doing Songs & Stories at 10:00 AM at The Collective Venue on 19th Street.

All House Churches are coming together to share a meal, so please bring a brunch item to share. We will have a time of eating, singing, and sharing what God has been doing amongst us as a community. Feel free to pray through and contribute in any way —whether it's a song, baking, artwork, Scripture insight, or testimony. Don't feel pressured; everyone's contributions are valued as we grow together in this space.

Hope to see you there!

Longest Night | A Liturgy of Lament
Dec

Longest Night | A Liturgy of Lament

December 21st is the longest night of the year, and we will gather together and spend the evening practicing a liturgy of lament.

Lament is the biblical practice of taking our hurt and pain to God while simultaneously declaring our trust in him. Jesus welcomes our grief and is acquainted with it.

We want to acknowledge the dark and broken places in our world and our lives, and it feels appropriate to name our hurt and pain together in the community. The evening will be simple as we take time to pray, read scripture, sing, and look toward our promised hope in Jesus.

December 21st from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at the Othart Home

617 Purdy Ct. Bakersfield, CA 93309

No kid care is available, so we ask that you make other arrangements for children.

***We will spend a portion of the evening around the firepit outside, so dress warm.

We hope to see you there!

Advent All Church Gatherings

In Advent, the church stands between two proclamations - “God has come” and “Come, Lord Jesus!” The first proclamation anchors our confidence that the second will be answered. God dwells among us! The way of Jesus - his life, death, and resurrection shape and form our hope that he will return, reign, and make all things new.

For Advent 2023, all house churches will gather at Westside Church on Sunday evening at 4:30 PM to worship together. We look forward to celebrating the season together.

Here are the upcoming dates and times.
